I know you're getting interested on how to learn Chinese but it seems a bit challenging for you. First, this is not your first language. Second, you are half-blooded Chinese only. Third, your parents wants you to learn Chinese but not you. Fourth, you think its fun to learn Chinese and so here you are.
This is based on my personal experience when I study Chinese at a very young age. I think 4 years old. I want to share how I learn Chinese. So here we go.
Ways to learn Chinese
- Reading Chinese textbooks
- Writing Chinese words
- Speaking Chinese (Mandarin, Hokkien or Cantonese)
- Listening Chinese radio station, Chinese music,
- Singing Chinese songs (Classic, Modern or other genre)
- Memorizing (at least 10 words a day)
- Analyzing (best way to memorize , is to analyze the word)
- Workbook (you need to improve more)
- Assignments (you learn something your teacher did not taught in class)
- Exams (you need to validate your learnings)
- Application (you need to use every word as possible as you can)
- Studying (review your written notes, given handouts, other modules)
- Translating (tongue language to chinese language , vise versa)
- Watching Chinese movie, Chinese drama, Chinese music video and Chinese concert.
- Participating in your Chinese classes
- Be active on recitation
- Know your strengths and weaknesses
- Focus on difficult Chinese words
- Have time for reviewing Chinese notes, Chinese books
- Have a study buddy
- Ask your Chinese teacher if you need to know something
- Make your own study guide, reviewer.
- Don't cram on exam days.
- If you need a tutor, look for one.
- Have a Chinese dictionary or look for a website that can translate. (english to chinese)
- Download a game related to Chinese learnings and have fun.
- Assess yourself on how you can learn Chinese in easy way. Make your mnemonics, used sticky notes.
- Think that Chinese is very magical. You can learn in different way. Nothing is impossible
